Perfect Winter Sport for Longboarders

Definitely didn't plan on making a story out of this trip, but after all the fun I had and all the photos I took, I just had to! I'm not the best snowboarder, but I sure do love it! It's the perfect cross-training for longboarding in the winter. On top of that, it's softer bails, endless rides to the top, no cars, and more three-dimensional terrain. What's not to love?!

Timberline Lodge

The other day was my first time up on the snow slopes for me this season. A bunch of friends were going up to Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood for the day and invited me to join in on the adventure.

I love Timberline because it offers a variety of terrain and friendly staff. The whole resort is quite easy to navigate and there's lots of great spots to chill out along the runs. My favorite route is called the Bone-zone which is a natural halfpipe carved through the trees. Wish I snagged a couple photos there, but unfortunately that's going to have to wait until next time.

Snowboarding with my Camera

For the first time ever, I tried riding with my camera to take some action shots. It was challenging to say the least! I've got quite a bit of experience on my longboard, but gauging speed and keeping a close distance with a wide-angle lens was a whole new experience on the snow. Focus was a tad off and I wish I shot at a slightly slower shutter speed to capture more motion, but overall, I'm stoked on the results I got. Couldn't have asked for better lighting!

My Gear

As far as camera equipment goes, I packed quite light. Below is a list of my go-to gear for a low-key spur of the moment trip like this one.

Super light-weight daypack from Cotopaxi. Great for a few small items throughout the day.

My Ruroc helmet. Looks kinda storm trooper-ish haha. Got it last year to test out and it's been great. Comes with decent goggles too.
